Every child has the right to a healthy and safe home.
Unfortunately, the current reality is that many children face neglect, trauma and emotional challenges. Annually, an estimated 5,000 Napa children suffer abuse or a mental illness that without treatment, can lead to behaviors that weaken the health of our community. Many of these challenges are under reported or go undiagnosed.
Founded in 1972, two local organizations began working to ensure that Napa children have the opportunity to grow up in safe, nurturing homes and achieve emotional wellness. Although much has changed over the last 45 years, Cope Family Center and Aldea Children and Family Services are still striving to bring awareness to the critical issue of child maltreatment and mental health stigma.
Incorporated in 1972, Aldea opened its first group home, a residence for six adolescent girls, who were dependents and wards of the Court. Aldea has since evolved into 7 quality programs, with over 130 professionals serving more than 3,900 people each year. Aldea has responded to community needs by establishing school-based programs and day treatment, opening non-public schools, offering treatment foster care, child abuse treatment services and finally outpatient services.
Aldea’s mission is to improve lives and create bright futures for people we serve by providing professional mental health, child welfare and support services in a manner that respects the dignity and individuality of each person. Our goal, from day one, has been to offer the highest quality services and programs to help our most vulnerable achieve emotional wellness and become engaged members of the community, despite past abuse or emotional challenges.

Cope Family Center seeks to create a community where all Napa County children are healthy, safe, and have the opportunity to reach their greatest potential. Since 1972, we have led the effort to prevent child abuse and neglect by addressing the root causes, such as poverty and trauma. A majority of our parents and caregivers suffered abuse and trauma in childhood. At Cope, they receive education and support to become self-sufficient and break the cycle of poverty and violence.
Cope Family Center’s mission is to empower families to create happy, healthy lives for their children through child abuse prevention, parent education, and self-sufficiency services. Our staff and volunteers serve approximately 3,000 families annually, raising over 5,000 children.
At Cope, we believe that an investment in families is an investment in the future of the community as a whole. We must all recognize the impact that the health of our families has on the strength of the community. In order to effect real change, we must support our most vulnerable populations with proven interventions as early as possible.
